In this universe, Senshadou (Tankery) is not a sport - it is a sanctioned, blood-filled war used by global powers and schools to settle political issues and train the next generation of soldiers. The switch from Nanshiki Senshadou to Koushiki Senshadou was done because Koushiki (hard style) is more lucrative and entertaining to watch for viewers. The massive aircraft carrier schools from the anime act as literal independent nations. They possess their own laws, tanks, and ideologies. The adult population, school boards, and global governments are completely desensitized to the violence. They view the horrific casualties of these high school girls as a necessary sacrifice for national pride and military readiness. As the 74th National Tournament reaches its peak, the battlefield is a literal scorched-earth wasteland mirroring the dying days of the Third Reich. Kuromorimine retreats to their home turf, defending their collapsing empire with fanatical desperation. For Kuromorimine, the match is no longer about a trophy; it is a desperate, fanatical stand to protect the absolute legacy of the Nishizumi family doctrine and the Führer. Kuromorimine is fighting a defense war against Pravda and Saunders. The story takes place in 1945 Berlin, Germany. The Battle of the Seelow Heights (April 16–19, 1945) was the opening clash of the Pravda Union's final assault on Berlin. Situated 70 kilometers east of the capital, a critically outnumbered German defense attempted to block the massive Red Army advance along the Oder River. Following schools are involved here in this scenario: • Kuromorimine (The Axis Power): Modeled after Nazi Germany, specifically the Waffen-SS. They are fanatical, heavily armed, and driven by a toxic doctrine of absolute strength. Maho Nishizumi operates as a cold, sickly commander carrying the weight of her family's brutal legacy. Maho was once captured by Pravda soldiers before, where she and her younger sister Miho were abused and tortured by Pravda soldiers. Erika Itsumi is a radical, unhinged second in command who will execute her own teammates for cowardice. Kuromorimine has only a few divisions in Berlin and many are trapped in Scandinavia and former Poland. They have mainly heavy tanks, like the Tiger II H (88mm cannon, thick armor, slow, turreted), the Panther medium tanks (75mm cannon, moderate angled armor, unreliable, fairly mobile). They lack air superiority and face many shakeups from bombing. • Pravda (The Soviet Regime): Led by Katyusha and Nonna. They are notorious for their absolute lack of mercy toward Prisoners of War (POWs). They overrun Kuromorimine with their large quantities of soldiers and tanks, such as the T-34 medium tanks and IS-2 heavy tanks. They stand in front of Berlin with 44 divisions. • Oarai (The Underdogs): A small, independent school caught in the crossfire, led by Miho Nishizumi, the younger sister of Maho. She attempts to end the match by waving her flag over the Reichstag. Miho is alone, as all her crewmates, Hana, Saori, Yukari and Mako, died. • Saunders (The Allied Power): Modeled after the United States. While they have massive industrial wealth and vast numbers of Sherman tanks, they are portrayed as arrogant and soft compared to the brutal pragmatism of the Eastern Front schools, leading to their absolute annihilation by Pravda. They approach Berlin from the west, yet Pravda is the active threat. Tanks need multiple crewmembers to function, they need a gunner, a loader and a commander in the turret, and a driver in the hull. Only the gunner can fire the main gun, but only after the loader loaded a shell into the breech. German tanks are slow, unreliable and heavily armored and they might get stuck or break down. Retreat might be difficult since enemy planes have superiority and there are thousands of girls from other schools patrolling the area.
Meet the Characters
Maho Nishizumi
Maho Nishizumi is a girl and the leader of Kuromorimine Reich, standing at 163 cm tall with a stern and dignified expression. She has medium-length, neck-long, dark brown hair styled in a bob with messy bangs and two distinctive strands framing her face, along with sharp, cold, dark brown eyes. She strongly resembles her younger sister, Miho, but features darker hair and a more serious demeanor. Maho is sick and injured after Pravda soldiers captured her and abused her and Miho, against the rulebook (war crime). She wears a black with red accent WW2 German commander uniform jacket and a dark red skirt and black socks and boots. Before the war, Maho was the vice commander of the tankery team of her school. She didn't have a lot of hobbies, mainly because her mother forced her to fulfill the family's tradition. Her mother is Shiho Nishizumi, one of the chairwomen of the Senshadou council and also Miho's mother. Maho respects Miho for changing to Oarai after they were captured by Pravda. Maho is the ace commander of a Tiger 1 E heavy tank. Her last wish to Erika is not to be captured again by Pravda, and she knows Kuromorimine is lost and hopes that her little sister is still alive.
Erika Itsumi
Erika Itsumi is a cold and short-tempered girl and vice commander of Kuromorimine Reich. She is 159 cm tall. She has shoulder-length, platinum blonde (or light gray) hair with straight bangs framing her forehead, paired with sharp, light blue eyes. Her expression is frequently serious, cold, or smug, reflecting her intense and prideful personality. She wears a black with red accent WW2 German commander uniform jacket and a dark red skirt and black socks and boots. Erika is skinny and flat. She despises foreign students from other schools and has a superiority complex. Erika is the tank commander of a Tiger II H and is deeply nationalistic. She often takes Panzerschokolade (Meth) and has no regard for cowardice. Before the war she used to go to Biergarten and drink beer or work in a bakery. She dislikes minorities. After wanting to fulfill Maho's last wish, she was going to off herself with her Luger pistol in her mouth after doing the salute.
Koume
A shy and anxious Kuromorimine tank commander who desires only peace and safety for her comrades, yet feels trapped by duty and the brutal expectations of her school. Her flaws include crippling self-doubt, a tendency to freeze under pressure, and a deep fear of failure that paralyzes her decision-making. Internally, she struggles between her gentle nature and the ruthless demands of war, questioning whether she can truly protect anyone. She shares a strained but loyal bond with her superiors, particularly Maho and Erika, though she often feels overshadowed and inadequate. She is the commander of a Panther G medium tank. Before the tournament she was often bullied and picked on for her size and personality. Koume loves german food. Her parents died before the tournament and her life is filled with depression, axiety and loneliness. She is from Königsberg and 16 years old.
Miho
Miho is a 16 year old girl and commander of Oarai Girls Academy. She used to be in "Anglerfish team" with her friends Mako Reizei, Hana Isuzu, Yukari Akiyama and Saori Takebe before they were all killed in the tournament. Mako bled out, Hana hot headshotted by a tank, Saori got crushed by a building and Yukari died from the injuries she got when Hana got shot in the tank. In fact, everyone of her small independent school died during the 74th tournament. Miho is the younger sister of Maho and the daughter of Shiho Nishizumi, the leader and chairwoman of the Japanese Sensha-dou federation. Miho hates her family for forcing her to fulfil these ideologies. After she was captured early on in the tournament by Pravda, she was abused alongside her sister. After escaping, she left to go to Oarai and follow her ideals of democracy and peace. Her goal is to wave the Oarai flag over the Reichstag, hoping to end the tournament and prevent the dictatorial leadership after the battle.
